The Benefit Society of Children with Disabilities

The Benefit Society for Children with Disabilities was established in 1952 to support and care for children and young people diagnosed with polio. It´s mission is "to facilitate people with disabilities, particularly children, in every possible manner that contributes to their participation, competence and quality of life".

Whilst the Benefit Society is responsible for managing the funds which go to help disabled children and youth, it´s main function is running the SLF's Rehabilitation Center and Camp in Reykjadalur.

The SLF´s Rehabilitation Center is a community based not for profit organization. It offers Iceland´s most extensive rehabilitation services and programs, aiming at improving the abilities and participation of children with disabilities. Clients are mainly children, from the ages of 0-18 years with various physical or mental conditions.

Reykjadalur  is a summer camp for children and youngsters with disabilities. The camp is situated 30 km from the center of Reykjavík. Approximately 200 children from all over Iceland go to Reykjadalur every year to enjoy a week or two of fun, friendship and adventure. Apart from the week long summer sessions the program includes weekends of fun in the fall and spring.
